The Women's Rehabilitation Group (WRG) of NJ helps underprivileged women, children and young adults in India and the USA to stand on their own feet, earn their own livelihood and lead self-respecting lives.

WRG teaches skills and provides education to enable women and young adults to start their own small businesses or get job training. We work to provide skills and education to empower these women and young adults to be financially independent.

By starting their own small businesses or entering the workforce for the first time, they build confidence and self- worth, thus breaking the cycle of dependence, abuse and poverty for themselves and their families.

2023-2024 Projects

ASIA INITIATIVES: Child Laborer to Entrepreneur

Rita Chaudhry visited Maker Labs in October 2022 & met with Mr. Tiwari who oversees the program & students. Some of the projects they had put together were Solar lights, portable vacuums, magnetic switches & perfumed soaps. Rita Chaudhary was very impressed with students’ knowledge & enthusiasm.

Udaipur district is in the southwestern part of Rajasthan, just east of the Aravali moun-tain range.

• WRG in collaboration with Asia Initiatives, and our on-ground partnership with Vi-dhalaya Udhyam(VU), help improve the chances of financial success of school dropouts and at-risk children in five villages - Chawand, Ambala, Sannada, Sarada and Badgoan in Udiapur district.

• VU works with 13-18 year olds that are either school dropouts who have become child laborers or at-risk students in government schools in remote and rural areas. VU sets up School Businesses which are both educational and profitable. These businesses are called Mind Maker Labs. Students continue their jobs or schooling and then attend Mind Maker sessions. Students receive instruction on the Maker mindset curriculum, design thinking and entrepreneurial mindset.

• Currently there are over 100 students enrolled and over 40 of them are being support-ed by WRG.

• Such activities encourage students to enhance their life skills & turn inventions into profit making businesses.
